South Korea passport photo guide
South Korea Passport Photo Requirements and Online Checker
Crop, resize, and check a South Korean passport photo using the official 35 × 45 mm composition, 413 × 531 pixel online recommendation, and strict no-generative-editing rules.
South Korea passport photo requirements
Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires a 35 × 45 mm natural-colour portrait taken within six months. The head must measure 32–36 mm from the top of the head, excluding hair, to the chin; the background must be genuine, uniform white without a border.

South Korea passport photo application routes
Choose the output that matches your application route while keeping the same official portrait composition.
Online passport renewal
Use the recommended 413 × 531 pixel JPEG at 300 dpi. The official upload system accepts files within 395–431 × 507–550 pixels.
In-person passport application
Print the reviewed image at exactly 35 × 45 mm on glossy or matte photo paper; ordinary printer paper is not accepted.
Korean citizens applying overseas
Use the same passport composition and confirm the appointment and delivery requirements of the Korean embassy or consulate handling the application.
How to take a Korea passport photo with your phone
Phone photos are only usable when they preserve natural facial proportions and already meet the genuine-background rule.
- Ask another person to use the rear camera at eye level from a natural distance; do not use a close selfie.
- Use a real, clean white wall or backdrop with no texture, marks, border, objects, or other people.
- Face the camera directly with the head centred, shoulders straight, mouth closed, and eyes naturally open.
- Use soft, even light that preserves the natural skin tone without shadows or reflections.
- Keep the forehead, chin, eyes, and complete facial outline visible; remove hats and distracting accessories.
- Disable beauty mode, portrait blur, filters, AI enhancement, facial reshaping, and background removal.
Common Korean passport photo rejection reasons
The official photo checker does not replace final review, so avoid these problems before applying.

- The file falls outside the accepted online range or the head length is not 32–36 mm.
- The background is not uniformly white or has been artificially removed or replaced.
- A close selfie distorts the nose, forehead, ears, or facial proportions.
- The head or shoulders are turned or tilted, the mouth is open, teeth show, or the expression is not neutral.
- Hair, frames, glare, shadows, tinted lenses, coloured contacts, or accessories obscure the face or eyes.
- The image is old, blurry, low-resolution, overexposed, retouched, filtered, or AI-generated or altered.
