How to take a USCIS photo at home

Start with a plain, well-lit photo and avoid accessories that can delay a filing.

What size photo does USCIS require?
For forms that request a passport-style photo, use a 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm) color photo. The head should measure 1–1⅜ in (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. Always follow the current instructions for your form.
Can I take a USCIS photo with my phone?
Yes. Start with a recent, clear, unedited phone photo that meets the required background, pose, framing, and image-quality rules for your filing.
Does Form N-400 require photos?
Certain eligible naturalization applicants residing outside the United States must submit two identical passport-style photos. Applicants filing from within the United States should follow the current Form N-400 instructions and any USCIS appointment notice.

Use a natural expression with both eyes open and your mouth closed. Everyday makeup is generally fine if it does not obscure facial features or change your recognizable appearance.
Do I need a printed or digital photo?
